21/01/10 Liverpool & St.Helens U17's Attain County Honours
THE THREE AMIGOS
(Middle) Connor Charlton – Prop.
Connor has a great attitude, is technically very good in the tight, a coach’s dream as he asks questions if he’s unsure and listens and takes everything onboard. Starting to learn the dark arts of the front row. A huge asset as he is happy to play either side of the front row.
(Left) Jamie Bradshaw – Fly Half.
Jamie came into the side initially as a centre but his ability to read a game and his handling led us to start him this season at 10, didn’t enjoy his first couple of games there but has grown into the position and is now a tremendous prospect, another with great attitude, leads the line superbly well.
(Right) Ryan Leadbetter – Wing / Full back.
A live wire on the wing, has pace to burn and always returns kicks with interest, a devastating broken field runner. Great attitude, typified when our hooker went down injured at Rochdale, Ryan immediately offered his services.
All 3 where due to play, and gain their first county cap, against a North of England side at KEQMS Lytham, unfortunately the game was called off at the last minute and denied the trio, surely they will not have long to wait, to get that first cap.
The day turned into a 3hr training session for Lanc’s U17s
21/01/10 Work Begins On New Pavillion At Rainford Cricket Club
Work on the new £200,000 pavilion at Rainford Cricket Club began in early November and should be ready in time for the start of the new cricket season.
The development, which includes state of the art changing rooms and a much enlarged club room, is primarily funded through the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Grant Aid Programme and Sport England and money raised by the club members themselves. The club has also received £25,000 from the St Helens Council’s Youth Capital Fund in response to an application led by two of the club’s girl coaches Helen Pickavance and Rachel Harrison. The award specifically recognises the club’s recent developments in girl’s cricket.
Rainford skipper Mark Williams, currently coaching and playing cricket in South Africa, says everyone at the club is delighted with the progress so far. “We cannot wait for the new season to start” he said. “We have enjoyed our first couple of years in the Liverpool Competition and look forward to sharing our improved facilities with everyone this season.”
Club Chairman John Williams said “It has been a long process but, with the help of a lot of people, it is brilliant to see it all now happening. We are extremely grateful to the ECB, Sport England and St Helens Council for their financial support together with the invaluable help provided by ECB’s Dan Musson, the Lancashire Cricket Board’s Paul Bryson and the Council’s Dave Boocock. The club would also like to thank Beesley and Fildes Ltd, Lawrenson Associates, Haygarth Jones Solicitors and Jayne Howson Hair for their help and support as main sponsors.”
